Starting a podcast: Educational content for your owners and tenants

Oct 21, 2023

I recently had the pleasure of hosting a returning guest on my podcast, "The Art of Property Management". Kelly Johnson and I had a chat about the podcast that Harcourts Alliance has launched for their clients and how they are using it within the business.

The Alliance Experience: A New Perspective on Property Management

Kelly Johnson, who is a Business Development Manager at Harcourts Alliance, recently started a podcast with her colleague, Samantha Riley, the head of property management. Their podcast, "The Alliance Experience," is a platform for them to share their experiences and perspectives on property management.

They cover various topics such as fees, inspections, and renting privately. The goal of their podcast is to provide valuable information to landlords, tenants, and others in the real estate industry, and to let them know that they are not alone in dealing with challenges.

If you have been thinking of doing a podcast inside your business, the podcast we recently recorded on this topic would be a great start and will give you some ideas on who to target it to, and content ideas.

The Nuts and Bolts of Podcasting

We talk about the technical aspects of podcasting, discussing their podcast setup, which includes a podcast recording machine with microphones linked to their laptop. One thing that is important to consider is having a backlog of content ideas for a podcast. So many people start off strong with a few episodes, but then quickly fall behind with launching new ones. We brainstormed potential topics such as interviewing landlords and tenants, discussing property maintenance issues like overhanging trees on fence lines, and providing market updates.

Using Your Podcast as a Value-Add

Positioning a podcast as a value add to clients is a great way to utilize it for marketing new business and to stand out as a BDM. It is a good point of difference and shows your commitment to educating clients.

Podcasting is a cheap way to educate your clients and an easy way for you to have more content for your socials. It is a great value add and will help you stand out in the crowd! If you have been sitting on the fence about getting started, this is your sign to launch your ideas today!
